WGDRR Capacity Building / Knowledge Sharing in DRR(NDMI) held in Sendai, Japan

The Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction of the UNESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee hosted a session in the World Bosai Forum 2025 which was held in Sendai, Japan on Mar 7-9, 2025.  The theme of the session was From Data to Action: Monitong Systems and Early Warnings for Disaster Risk Reduction.  Dr. Nathaniel SERVANDO, Administrator of PAGASA of the Philippines, Chair of TC, attended the session and made opening remarks. Dr. Woojung CHOI  from NDMI, Republic of Korea also shared his presentation. 4 representatives from NDMI and 1 representative from Vietnam attended the session and shared their presentations on the theme.

The session highlights the critical role of monitoring systems in disaster management for events such as typhoons, floods, and landslides.  It explores advancements in early warning technologies and disaster risk reduction strategies, emphasizing the significance of monitoring and data analysis in enhancing preparedness and resilience.  The session aims to inspire collaborative efforts to address the impacts of climate change and protect vulnerable communities.

The World Bosai Forum brings together the knowledge of industry, academia, and citizens on disaster risk reduction across national borders and seeks prospects through behaviour change.
